Highlights of the week: Tomorrow is May the Fourth be with you day and I am having a CRISIS because my Star Wars sweater has some holiday-shenanigans stains on it…I wore it so much at home that I think I just packed it up without even checking for errors. So I am frantically treating the stains. Luckily I have two back-up shirts. One I will have to save for May the Sith be with you, but. We have options. So this is a “light” because I’m both excited about Star Wars themes and also anxious about my outfit.

Also my birthday party was fantastic – in true teacher fashion everyone was mostly on time and brought some goodies to share, we were very excited and loud for a few hours, and then everyone was gone by 11:30pm. I love making family dinners, I love having people over, I love dancing and being silly and making people wear hats, and I haven’t done much of that this year. It was so nice to clear out a dance floor, fire up the karaoke machine and just be ridiculous with my friends.

Facebook is a trip on your birthday…it’s fun to see random people you haven’t talked to in forever come out and say hello, and I hate it but I always notice the people I expected something from but never heard. And I get offended and swear my vengeance. But like, fun vengeance.

AND it’s Teacher Appreciation Week and my boss got us Dominoes after school and I ignored my lactose intolerance and destroyed some pizza for the first time in a long time and yeaaaaaah.

And we had church at the . . . I don’t even know what to call it in English . . . my condominium complex is on a reserve, and there are these spaces you can rent out with a full barbecue, soccer, volleyball, bonfire, gazebo set-up, but literally a part of a rainforest jungle nature land. We had church there this Sunday, and these monkeys were going OFF and one basically answered the altar call. And then my dear friends renewed their vows, so sweet, and then we had a churrasco and played Catchphrase and chatted for hours. Someone had a ukelele, I brought my guitar, and we jammed until the sun set. It was a “oh, this is why everything is good” kind of moment.

Lowlights of the week: The Olympic torch arrived in Brazil today!!! And now I’m all thinky, because I need to buy a ticket back to Brazil after my time at home this summer, and I just can’t decide when to do it! On the one hand, because of the Olympics, Rio isn’t allowed to have school in session until August 22nd. SO I could have seven full weeks at home, which would be great because I’m missing Christmas again this year. I could actually relax and enjoy some down time with my fam, go camping, have slumber parties with Traci, catch up with the puppy.

On the other hand, Kerri Walsh and April Ross basically admitted they wanted to be best friends with me – they asked if we’d be here in August for the Olympics and who am I to deny them their biggest fan?!

Also my friend fell in a manhole outside my apartment and is all banged up. And Whatsapp went on another block for a few days in Brazil. Yup.

Fav song at the moment: “RAAAASPBERRY BERET” – except I sing it with a Carioca accent and sing “HAAAASBERRY BEHEY” because r’s are h’s here.

This week I watched: Several youtubes videos about how to teach yourself hula. My dad’s side of the family is Hawaiian, and my great-aunts were hula dancers and beautiful singers, and I’m feeling the need to learn how to do that. Also watched a video about how seals move on land for about five minutes. And videos about hoarders houses full of cockroaches. And wedding videos of strangers, because those make me cry in a good way. And started to catch up on Kimmy Schmidt! Magical.

This week I read: lots of articles on post-root canal issues and how to solve them. And also the lyrics to Rihanna’s “Work” because I needed to know what she was saying. And a recipe on how to cook chicken on a stove top because we still don’t have an oven. #17longmonthswithoutmuffins

All the current feels are from: This video below, about the first woman to dare to run a long distance race (the Boston Marathon). It was 1967 – not that long ago! And people still thought our uteri would drop out if we ran a marathon…just like men thought our lady bits would fall out if we rode a train in the 1800s…all my fierce lady feels are firing up and I am now even more passionate about ending the tampon tax and training for a marathon to run here in Brazil. Y’all heard it first.

I’m looking forward to: I’m leading Chapel next week for our K-6th graders. We’ve been studying bible verses about light this

semester…and the metaphor has its limits as far as demonstrations go for little kids. I don’t think I can pull off a cool craft in that time. But I’m working on a powerpoint with cartoon characters, a story about how I ate a spider web in cookie mix, and pictures of pugs dressed as Darth Vader, so….I think all the souls will be coming to Jesus as a result.

If you haven’t heard it yet, and you need to today:

from the top of your head to the bottoms of your toes and all around you – you are cool and you are loved and i’m glad to know you.
